Tara
“A female meditational diety who is regarded as the embodiment of all the buddhas' (the fully enlightened mind's) enlightened activity. Naturally, therefore, she is strongly associated with both pristine cognition and compassion and is often spoken of as the 'mother' of all the buddhas...There are many different aspects of Tara, and an enumeration of the twenty-one aspects in the tantric Buddhist pantheon is well documented in prayers, liturgies, sculpture and painting. The most popular of these are Green Tara (mainly associated with protection) and White Tara (often associated with healing and longevity practices.) Practices associated with Tara are widespread among all four main traditions of Tibetan Buddhism...Tara literally means 'saviouress' or 'she who liberates'."
